If you are a compassionate Christian, then we can rightly assume you are a "come alongside" kind of Christian. If you will notice, the first few letters of the word: compassionate, include the word: compass.
Therefore, a 'compass-like' Christian like you would, because of your fondness for Jesus, intentionally "come alongside" someone in need. Because Jesus lives in your heart, you are able to see, that is, visualize, another person's needs and hurts. As it happens, you see those problems from the many different "compass points" or perspectives of your heartfelt concern for the welfare of that person...all initially revealed to you by Jesus who lives in your heart.
Or, to say it another, way you would literally "encompass" that friend in as many ways as you can with your: sympathy, loving care, encouragement, prayers and your generous, practical gifts of necessities: food, furniture and even some contributions of money.
Of course, as a compassionate Christian, the person you go out of your way to "come alongside of "would undoubtedly see you as uncommonly considerate and quite "peculiar" to say the least. He, or she might even consider you, rightly or wrongly, to be a direct descendant of the Good Samaritan. You see, like the Samaritan, you are one who also recognizes that it is your God directed responsibility and duty to come alongside and do the best you can to help. At the very least, you will lend a helping hand as well as your most encouraging words.
As you go through all of those "come alongside" activities with that person, you need to recognize you are then involved in a pivotal testing time in your life.
Why do I say this? Because by doing this, you will have established the fact that your life will, from that day forward, become what Jesus wants from you now and through all eternity: a very rewarding lifetime of- compassion.
