Can we function without fear, threats and intimidation? I do not see it's feasibility at this point however, if individually we began to recognize how many threats we make to get what we personally want and started adjusting our behavior, the better off we will be.
When we think of fear, threats and intimidation, the first think we think about are "terrorists." However, on a small scale we use these tactics in our daily life.
Your child will not listen to you so you threaten to take their toy away. This is fear, threats, and intimidation. How can we teach our children without fear, threats, and intimidation? How can we teach them to listen and provide us with respect?
If you have small children you must be aware that you cannot really function in today's world and get to where you need to be without fear, threats, and intimidation. You could, obviously, beat them into submission but we've, at least many of us, have come along way from that behavior. And now we need to get a grasp on our new "bad behavior" and deal with it.
So, how can we get our children and our world to behave? What is the answer? How can we do it without fear, threats and intimidation? The answer is not easy however it begins with adults taking control of how they are treating one another. It begins with being role models and not allow yourself to be under the control of fear, threats, and intimidation and also not be the one who is handing it out.
We have very bad behavior in manipulating our children into "behaving well." It is not unlike this "terrorist" behavior.... however, the difference is, we are incredibly confused as to how, in fact, they are trying to fulfill their "parental" role. What exactly are you trying to "teach" us? Perhaps if you spelled it out... and were reasonable we would be more likely to listen. We are, after all, adults here, are we not? We need to start listening to one another and finding some sort of common ground. What is reasonable and what is ridiculous because, of course, everyone has their own definition for those things.
We live in the United States as a democracy. We try to teach our children values.... to listen, to care, to be honest, to understand the other guy's point of view and compromise, to apologize, to forgive, and move on with all your hopes and dreams. As a democracy I think we believe that everyone is created equal and that nobody should be taken advantage of. We are a young nation. We are learning. We are on the right path.
We, as a country, are in fact "terrorists" ourselves in how we raise our children, in how we manage to manipulate what we seek. We do. We live with fear, threats, and intimidation on a daily basis. We are beginning to acknowledge it as a problem and we do not use it with such an incredible selfish disregard for human life.
Democracy will always prevail. Why? Because people do not want to continue forever with fear, threats, and intimidation.... Democracy, no matter how slow the process, works to minimize that and I assure you.... we will overcome.
