When I listen to the hubbub of the media I hear women blaming men for every thing and wishing they could be in that same powerful and privileged position as men, but I also so hear an endless stream of reality TV shows where men have changed their sex buy hormones and or surgery if they can afford it. Some times they turn to prostitution and pornographic modelling to pay for the transformation. There are of course also women that take drastic measures to try and change their bodies to resemble men. Why?
When I was only 21 years old I had a daughter, I loved her and did my utmost to make here feel loved and valued for who she was. When she was only just four years old I asked her what she thought she might like to be when she was a grown up. Her answer was a big surprise to me and just a little shock. My four year old daughter told me when she was grown up she would like to be...She would like to be...A man! OMG. What happened, I had done all I could to make her feel happy with her self, what influences had creped in unseen, or had I done something unknown. Or is it just inevitable, the grass is always greener on the other side.
Is it better to be a man or a woman, who has all the breaks and the easiest ride to a comfortable life? Who is pulling all the strings, who has the real influence? Who fashions our destiny?
When I was just a child I was privileged enough to know a very famous clairvoyant medium, (as always I will not embarrass those that knew her by name dropping) I listened to her often she talked about many things, she talked about reincarnation. She could remember many past lives and she told me that she had many past lives as a man and many as a women. She told me most emphatically that men and women were absolutely equal and absolutely opposite but complementary.
When considering the qualities and influences of men and women for every weakness she had he had a power, for every power he had there was a weak side that she could touch, either to strengthen him or to betray him. For every hope she had he had the tools and resources to build her dream. But he needed her to give him the strength and purpose to build her dream and for every dream there was a nightmare. And form every nightmare we would awaken.
There was no question as to who was more virtuous or who was the strongest or most intelligent. Both were equal but different. But both were made of the same stuff. The essence of man and woman is like air, all is air, but one is the in breath and the other the out breath, one the inhalation and the other the exhalation. Neither could exist with out the other and life would not be possible without both.
When life seems harsh and the other gender seems to have it oh so easy how should we feel, where should our thoughts lead? Some take drastic surgical measures to bring ease to their troubled minds and emotions. Some just make it their life's work to criticize and blame the other gender and feel everything would be better if only their gender got to call all the shots and make all the rules.
Through out my life my gender has been defined by my body and societies perceptions of me, but I have learned to know my self as a human being first and a gender second. I am human and I have a gender but, I am the qualities I choose to express, and what I choose to express changes over time. The grass will always seem greener on the other side.
For and easier life try to enjoy the side you are on, and the view of the other side while you can. Things can change sooner than you realise. We do not need to blame the other gender or try to change our own gender or our society, we can just change our minds...And ...Change them back again, when we feel like it.
